Traffic before and after the implementation of the cement plant

  • January 2016 traffic study conducted by the engineering from CIMA+ was reviewed considering conservative and more realistic assumptions to assess the potential impact of the project on traffic, especially on County Road 17.  The study was performed following the guidelines of the Ministry of Transportation, the analysis considered the current volume of traffic, an annual increase of 2%.  The revised study is available in the download area.

This traffic analysis included three components:

  • Delivery of materials, from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • The sale of cement, between 3 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Delivery of materials through the Port of Montreal. These materials will be shipped 24 hours a day, during the unloading of the ship.

The study concluded that with a peak use of 28 and an annual increase of 2% of road capacity, the level of traffic on County Road 17 will remain well below capacity limits. In other words, CIMA+ concluded that there was no significant impact on the traffic.

A Safe Road
To improve the safety of County Road 17, with the implementation of the project, a left-turn lane and an acceleration or deceleration lane on the right-hand side were recommended by CIMA+ for access to the entrance of the plant. Colacem has integrated these recommendations to the plant’s design.
